Akshay Kumar has announced the release date for the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, a multiple national award-winning Tamil film titled by Surya. The Tamil film was released in direct digital on Amazon Prime Video in 2020. Its Hindi remake will hit theaters worldwide on September 1, 2023.
Taking his social media as the basis, Akshay shared the release announcement poster and wrote, “We are ready to take off! Production #27 (untitled) releases in theaters worldwide on September 1, 2023.” Radhika Madan replaces Aparna Balamurali as the main character in the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake.
As soon as Akshay left his post, netizens took to the comments section and asked the actor to stop making remakes. One user wrote, “Stop remaking movies please,” while another added, “Another remake, why are you choosing only remakes? We need fresh content, sir.” “Akshay Kumar ko quantity se jyada quality par dhyan dena chahiye wo to apne fee le lete hain or producer ka paisa maarta hai (Akshay Kumar should focus more on quality rather than quantity, he takes his royalties but destroys the producers’ money)” , wrote another disgruntled fan.
Akshay’s recent films have been remakes of South Indian films. His latest theatrical release, Selfie, was a remake of the Malayalam film Driver’s License. Cuttputlli and Bachchhan Paandey, his two releases last year, were remakes of the Tamil films Ratsasan and Jigarthanda respectively.
Speaking of Soorarai Pottru, the Tamil drama won five national film awards for Best Actor (shared with Ajay Devgn for Tanhaji), Best Actress, Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay and Best Background Score. Suriya will also make a cameo appearance in the Hindi remake directed by Sudha Kongara, who also directed the original Tamil film.
