Over the past five years, more than 50,000 members of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have quit their jobs, according to data provided by the Ministry of the Interior (MHA) to a parliamentary commission. The highest attrition was in 2022, when 11,884 employees left the service.

According to 242 th Requirements for the MHA Grant Report, presented at the Rajya Sabha on March 17, the Parliamentary Committee sought to learn about the attrition of CAPF employees, including “suicides and missing persons” (MIA) over the past five years. The Interior Ministry responded that in the last five years from 2018 to 2022, 654 CAPF employees committed suicide. The highest suicide rate is in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) followed by the Border Force (BSF) and Sashastra Seema. Bal (SSB), while the lowest suicide rate is in the National Security Guard (NSG).

“Over the past five years from 2018 to 2022, the loss in CAPF was 50,155 people. During this period, the highest dropout is in BSF, followed by CRPF, and the lowest dropout is in SSB. Between 2021 and 2022, attrition in Assam Rifles increased from 123 to 537 people, in CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) from 966 to 1706 people, and in SSB from 553 to 121,” the report says. said. .

The committee said that this level of attention could affect working conditions at CAPF and therefore urgent action could be taken to improve working conditions, in particular to motivate staff to stay strong.

The committee also recommends that CAPFs be able to follow a deployment rotation policy so that Javans are not left in harsh and inhospitable conditions for long periods on end. The Committee believes that this could help not only to reduce the tendency to seek transfers to preferred locations, but also to attract attention to a certain extent. The Committee also recommends that the Department conduct exit interviews or surveys among staff who have opted for voluntary retirement and resignation to assess the factors leading to termination and take appropriate measures to address staff concerns so that layoffs can be curbed in the force.
