Kannada actor Chetan Ahimsa was arrested by Seshadripuram police on Tuesday for posting conflicting tweets on his Twitter account about Hindutva.
On the basis of a complaint by one Shivakumar, the police charged Chetan under sections 295A and 505(2) of the Criminal Code. He was taken into custody for further investigation.
In a March 20 tweet, Chetan claimed that Hindutva is an ideology “built on lies” and cited Savarkar, the Babri Mosque, and Uri Gauda and Nanje Gauda as examples.
He also tweeted that hinduvta can be defeated by truth and that “truth is equality”.
This, according to Shivakumar, hurt the feelings of the Hindus and provoked a breach of the peace.
